Eye Transillumination Technique
With the patient positioned in a headrest, the light source is placed on the lower lateral eye. With small positional movements, the best transilluminated image can be obtained. Try to get the eyelid all the way up to see the entire iris.

- Turn off room lights to eliminate reflections on the cornea
- Place tip on lower lid, aim at back of retina, observe on monitor
- Focus image and adjust aperture for best exposure
- Move light to acquire best image. This is a dynamic exam.
